Stone Coated Metal vs Synthetic Resin Roof Tiles

Both are durable, good-looking export roofing products — but they suit different budgets, climates and architecture. Here is how to decide which to stock.

Material and lifespan

Stone-coated metal tiles use a Galvalume steel core with stone chips, rated to ~50 years and non-combustible. Synthetic resin tiles use an ASA-PVC composite, warranted ~30 years, with fire-retardant Class B1 performance.

Weight, climate and look

Metal tiles are lighter (~6 kg/m²) and excel in storm and seismic zones. Resin tiles give deep, even colour and a classic Chinese/heritage profile, with an ASA skin that holds colour under extreme UV — popular in the Gulf and for villas.

Price and how to choose

Resin tiles usually carry a lower landed cost; metal tiles command a premium for lifespan and fire rating. For salt-air or storm markets choose metal; for hot, high-UV or heritage-aesthetic projects consider resin. Tell us your market and we'll recommend a mix.

Choose stone-coated metal whenThe buyer wants low roof load, premium appearance, broad colour selection, fast installation and long service life for villas, estates or distributor stock.
Choose synthetic resin whenThe project needs a thicker curved sheet, corrosion resistance, lower rain noise and a traditional look for houses, resorts, sheds or renovation work.
Check before price comparisonDo not compare only one sheet price. Compare square-metre coverage, overlap, thickness, coating, accessories and packing.
Most common mistakeImporters order tiles without enough ridge, side cap and valley pieces. The roof then looks complete on paper but cannot be finished on site.

Stone-coated metal tiles are normally stronger for long-term distributor programmes because they combine low weight with a wide range of profiles. Synthetic resin tiles can be more suitable where corrosion, noise control or traditional curved appearance is the main selling point. For mixed markets, a first container can include one main product plus sample sets of the second product so the distributor can test both with local contractors.

The best choice also depends on installer habits. Metal tiles require correct batten spacing, fastening and accessory installation. Resin tiles require correct purlin spacing, expansion allowance and overlap direction. Before ordering, ask for installation drawings and check whether your local roofing teams already use similar products. This reduces after-sales complaints and helps your sales team explain the product with confidence.
