Synthetic Resin Roof Tile Buying Guide
A practical guide for importers, distributors and project buyers sourcing synthetic resin (ASA/PVC) roof tiles. It explains how to choose the right material and thickness, how to read colour and warranty specs, what MOQ and accessories to plan for, and which questions to ask before you place a container order. See our synthetic resin roof tiles product page for the full profile and colour range.
1. Know the material: ASA vs PVC vs APVC
Not all "resin tiles" are the same. The label covers several constructions with very different lifespans, so the first job is to confirm exactly what surface layer you are buying.
| Type | Surface layer | Colour / UV life | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASA synthetic resin | ASA (acrylic) top skin ≥ 0.15 mm over PVC core | Longest — 10-20 yr colour warranty, strong UV resistance | Export projects, high sun / coastal markets, premium distribution |
| APVC | Modified PVC skin | Medium — fades faster than ASA | Budget projects, sheltered roofs |
| Plain PVC | No dedicated UV skin | Shortest — noticeable fading in a few years under strong sun | Temporary / low-cost structures only |
For most export markets we recommend ASA-surfaced synthetic resin tiles. The extra ASA layer is the single biggest factor in how the roof looks after 5-10 years, and the price gap over plain PVC is small compared with the cost of a faded roof and warranty claims.
2. Choose the right thickness
Synthetic resin roof tiles are commonly offered in 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm and 3.0 mm.
- 3.0 mm — strongest, best load and hail resistance, recommended for main roofs and long ocean shipping.
- 2.5 mm — the popular all-round choice; good strength at a moderate price.
- 2.0 mm — lightest and cheapest; use only for sheltered structures, canopies or tight budgets.
Thicker tiles cost more per square metre and weigh more per container, but they resist handling and transport damage better. For a first order to a new market, 2.5-3.0 mm usually gives the fewest complaints.
3. Colour, profile and warranty
Confirm three things in writing before production: the exact colour code and finish (matte or gloss), the profile (Roman/Spanish wave, double-Roman, corrugated, etc.), and the colour warranty period. Ask for a physical colour sample, not only a screen render — screen colours never match the real product. Popular export colours are terracotta red, coffee brown, grey-blue and dark grey; darker colours can run hotter under strong sun.
4. MOQ, accessories and container loading
The practical minimum order is one 20ft container (roughly 1,500-2,000 m² of tiles). Mixed colours and mixed profiles can be loaded in a single container, which is ideal for distributors testing demand. Plan the accessory set at the same time as the main tiles, not after:
- Ridge caps, hip caps and end caps
- Valley, flashing and eave / gable trims
- Matching screws or nails with sealing washers, and sealant
- A wastage allowance (usually 5-10%) for cutting and breakage
A container that arrives without matching ridge and accessories cannot be installed, so confirm the full bill of materials before deposit.
5. Resin vs stone-coated metal — which to buy
Many buyers weigh synthetic resin against stone-coated metal. In short: resin tiles give a thick, traditional profile with low rain noise, corrosion resistance and a lower cost per square metre; stone-coated metal tiles are lighter and thinner with a premium chip finish and strong wind performance. The right pick depends on climate, roof structure, budget and local taste. For a full side-by-side, read our stone-coated metal vs synthetic resin roof tiles comparison.
6. Questions to send for a serious quotation
To get an accurate FOB or CIF price instead of a rough unit rate, send: target tile type (ASA/PVC), thickness, colour, roof area or container quantity, destination port and city, delivery deadline, and whether the order is for distribution stock or one confirmed project. If drawings are available, include roof slope, ridge and valley length so we can calculate tile quantity, accessory ratio and packing volume. Send these details and we will return a landed-cost quotation.
